On September 20, 2008, The Jackson Soccer Club teamed up with The Jackson Police to raise money for a local family dealing with Leukemia. Approximately $2,000 was raised for the family of John Marino to help in their struggle against cancer.
The evening started with a skills competition for the young players in the Jackson Soccer Club, both current and former players. Events included accuracy shooting, power shooting, juggling, and an obstacle course for dribbling. The kids put on an impressive display of skill for the audience.
Goran Vasic, leading scorer for the NJ Ironmen indoor soccer team, was on hand during the skills contest to give pointers to the players and sign autographs.
The evening concluded with a friendly soccer match between the JSC coaches and the Jackson Police, also known as the Cops vs Robbers game. The two teams were reinforced with special guests. The Police team featured several players who recently concluded thier days playing for the Jackson High School and the Coaches’ team included special guests Tab Ramos and Rob Johnson. Tab Ramos played for the NY/NJ Metrostars, captained the US National team, and played in 3 World Cup Finals. Rob Johnson was a leading player on the Jackson Memorial HS team that won the State Title, then played at Rutgres, and also played for the Metrostars.
The event was coordinated by Bruce Washington, with help from John Pejoski - Jackson Police Dept., Andy Weinstein, and Steve Eckel.
